The WordPress of Oz

By

Poor little Dorothy, she’s so confused.

Confused by web technology, and what it takes to get a website up and running.

And frustrated at the hassle and expense of working with webmasters.

Watch this video, the first in a series, and see what happens to Dorothy when a storm of web technology blows in from across the Kansas plains…

Perhaps you feel like Dorothy too?

Well then please leave me a comment below. I’d love to hear your story…

Poor Dorothy! Perhaps she doesn’t realise that bonked must have a different meaning in American English over British English! Hopefully she is too young to know what it means!

  2. Another great example of the creativity, and simplicity, you bring to your trainings!

  3. John P says:

ROFL!!! You Ladies! That is hilarious!

Anyway, very cute video. How did you do the tornado?

  4. Marc Beneteau says:

She’s a bit young to need a website, IMHO, but hey, once she does the training she’ll be able to make as many as she wants for free, right ;)

    • Christina Hills says:

      Marc,

Yes that actress is a bit young to need a site, but..

“Dorothy” represents that person inside of all of us who gets confused by web technology.

And yes, with WordPress once you know how to use it, you can build as many websites as you want!

      :)

  5. My story with the hassle of webmasters? Sure, but you have to promise not to laugh…

A couple of years ago, I hired a local webmaster to do my very first site. I figured I was doing a good thing – “helping support local business,” “helping out a local family,” (her, her husband and two children lived in a basement suite at the time and wanted to buy a home…).

She reassured me that she knew how to build an internet marketing site, knew all about the stuff I was talking about (autoresponders, etc…)…uh huh…

Almost $3000.00 later, I learned that she was wrong. To make a long story short – No website. No refunds.

My second one. Great web designer, but slooooowwww as molasses. Another costly error.

So what did I do? I went out and learned WordPress myself and am building the third on my own (with some help from a well-reputed girl in the know…).

Cost of learning about webmaster-hiring mistakes = $4000.00
Cost of learning WordPress = Priceless!

    • Christina Hills says:

      Ann-Michele,

      That’s a story I hear all to often…

Yes, having someone who can guide you through building your website with WordPress is priceless!

  6. Leslie Tyson says:

Christina, always so creative! I love it!

  7. Marsha says:

    Too cute.

I’m a DIY type. I know a little HTML and Dreamweaver to sound literate. My challenge is the “design” – colors and images.

I’ve even asked my son an experienced graphic designer for support. He still has prototypes from 4 years ago…somewhere. He has no time to help me. Go figure!

    • Christina Hills says:

      Marsha,

That’s funny about your son. Yes, I hear stories like that about sons, daughters, spouses, cousins, etc who are web people but don’t have time to help you.

      My program overcomes that challenge.

      :)

  8. Excellent video! And when I read Lauren’s comment I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair.

Instead of telling webmaster horror stories I’d like to share the tremendous feeling of empowerment I got from your Website Creation Workshop. I still outsource some of the work on my websites but it is a great feeling to know how much time is reasonable for particular tasks and that I am paying a fair price for the work done.

Also if it is a quick task or I want it done immediately I just do it myself. Very empowering!!

Thanks for providing such a wonderful and nurturing experience in your class and for finally putting me in control of my websites. It was a real pleasure and I look forward as a graduate, to coming back to pick up your latest updates.

    • Christina Hills says:

      Colombia,

Thanks for your story and I look forward to seeing you again in the Fall 2010 Website Creation Workshop!

  9. Beth Banning says:

Oh Christina that was too funny. I so appreciate your creativity and humor. Thanks for keeping all this stuff light and fun. Looking forward to the next one. :-)

    • Christina Hills says:

      Beth,

We crack up coming up with these ideas and shooting these videos. It’s a fun way to bring humor into marketing my Website Creation Workshop! :D

  10. Laya says:

Christina, I’ve had a number of different people say they could help me get that little box for people to sign up for my ezine onto my website–still not there. Will your course help me with that simple, basic task at long last? Also, what are the times of the classes? (I live outside of the US.)

REALLY cute video!!! Full of brains, heart and courage! :-)

    Christina,

That was excellent and your daughter is turning into quite the actress.

Its good to see your LucasArts experience being put to a more creative use then just building websites.

Your Amazingingly talented………I am glad I joined your program.

I have watched as your own platform and expertise grows just over the last year and it is well deserved.

Your out of the woods and stepping into the light….;)

I signed up and was supposed to go to a download page, but just got a page about the webinar today (which I attended). Can I get the PDF and Audio per the sidebar?

    Thank you,

    Gary

  13. Dorothy got bonked? Oh dear! Call the child protection agency!

    LOL

Gave me a laugh, anyways. Looking forward to the call – my blog needs some serious tidy-up and finessing.

  14. Willi K says:

Looking forward to learning more Christina. Thank-you for your creative demonstration that anyone can learn to do this. I have some experience with WordPress and really enjoy playing with it, but would really love to learn how to integrate YouTube videos and affiliate ad-links on a WordPress site.

Keep up the good work. Your launch is an obvious success. I wish you all the best in your work and creation.

    Blessings from Canada :)
