Go Grab Your Facebook Name Now

By Christina Hills

Last night Facebook opened up ‘vanity’ names. That means that you can now have your name on Facebook like this: www.Facebook.com/christinahills

Now, as you probably realize, many people have the same name on facebook. Just go look and you will be amazed how many of YOU there are out there.

So if you want your name, you should go get it now. And here’s how you do it:

  • Log into Facebook.
  • Then go to http://www.Facebook.com/username
  • Once you are there, it will show you the names you can pick from. And if you click on the ‘more’ link it will let you select a different name.
  • Select the name you want by checking the box or typing in your full name.
  • You are done!

(For example I picked ‘christinahills‘ as one word instead of ‘christina.hills‘ with the ‘.’ in the middle)

So if I were you, I’d take the 2 min now and go to this special page on Facebook
http://www.Facebook.com/username

and pick the name you want for your vanity URL before someone else grabs your name.

(Note: if you friend me on Facebook, then put down you are one of my subscribers so I know who you are)

You can friend me on Facebook here

My friend Paul Colligan did a great video on getting a Google Profile and getting your Facebook name. See it below

  1. Is it possible to re-set it after your first selection?

I want to remove the dot.

    • Christina Hills says:

I don’t think you can remove the dot after the fact. I wouldn’t worry about it, as most people will pick the dot, so they will be used to seeing it that way

Way cool. Thanks for sharing. It’s a done deal.

    Hi Christina,
Thanks for the great info. I just set my name on facebook. Does it automatically change it once I click it?

    Thanks!
I’m changing my user name on facefook right now and am wondering, is there an advantage to having the dot or not having it (between 1st and last name)?

  5. Christina Hills says:

    Robert,

it’s really just personal preference on how your name shows
if you can get it without the dot, I’d go for that.
If not, take the name with the dot

  6. Robert Hayek says:

    Christina,
Thanks for your reply. I wondered if there was a difference in terms of success in showing up on Google searches but, from your reply, it sounds like not…

  7. I LOVE twitter tools! There are some many great ones out there now, it really makes twitter much more fun.

  8. Lot’s of stuff to read here.

  9. Tyrone Smith says:

Can people really make money on Twitter? I have been reading a web site that says people can.

  10. Twitter stepped in and took over the real-time information aspect of social media, something that even news websites had failed to execute. The witnesses and participants of events were now ‘tweeting’ their experiences as they were happening, feeding audiences with pure insight and uncensored content. Although Twitter feels like a lose end waiting to be tied, its remarkably exponential worldwide increase will sustain its community and – more importantly – create a connection among audiences that neither Facebook nor any other media can come close to reaching.
