Your Facebook Pages
By · CommentsToday I want to talk about a technique called ‘Forwarding URLs’. If you have a Facebook Fan page, you are going to want to create a ‘Forwarding URL’ for that. What is a ‘Forwarding URL’ you ask? Well it’s a domain name that you purchase, that forwards to another domain. It’s the easy way to tell people about your websites!
I have a forwarding URL for my Fan Page on Facebook. If you go to http://www.ChristinaHillsOnFacebook.com you will then be redirected to http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christina-Hills/67923647824 which is my Facebook Fan Page.
I have many other forwarding URLs in my biz. I use them on teleseminars and webinars because it’s much easier to say a simple URL on a teleseminar, than give a long URL with lots of slashes and numbers.
Here is how you do it:
Twitter vs. Facebook
By · CommentsAre you a Twitter person or a FaceBook Person (or neither) ? I’m taking a poll of my readers to see which camp you fall into. Twitter and Facebook are the two largest social media platforms. Some people LOVE Twitter, and some HATE it. Same goes with Facebook. Using Social Media is a great way to connect with your audience and friends. And it’s a great way to drive traffic to your WordPress Website.
So the Question is Which do personally YOU Prefer?
Which is more FUN for you!
(not which works best for your business)
So what are you?

The FTC December 1 Deadline for Online Marketers
By · CommentsTomorrow the December 1st deadline for online marketers goes into affect. This new guidelines is going to apply to pretty much anyone who has an online business. This includes bloggers as well as small business owners and entrepreneurs. It basically defines what kind of testimonials you can have on your site, and what kind of endorsements you can give.
While I’m not a lawyer and cannot give you legal advice, I can point you to the government’s website where you can read up on this new rule.

It’s Not Just Technology that Changes…You Change!
By · CommentsI went to an internet marketing seminar this past weeend in Las Vegas. And, as I often get when I go away to seminar, I got a big ‘ah-ha’ about keeping up with technology. As we all know technology changes and we need to keep current with that constant change. And as entrepreneurs we need to continually learn new business techniques. I am always learning new techniques and buying programs to help me with this.
But it’s not just technology that changes, you change!
At one point in your business career you are focusing on one thing, then as your business grows you start to focus on other stuff. This makes life so exciting, in that you can see and watch the development in your business, but you also can see the growth and development in yourself as a person.
This is part of why I devoured learning and teaching WordPress as a business platform for websites. There are so many ways you can use WordPress, and it will keep changing with you as you grow your business and develop new websites. You can see a sampling of some of my students sites here.
I never got this when I worked in my corporate life. Yes, I did learn new stuff, and got very good at my craft in the special effect biz (as a senior technical director for George Lucas at Industrial Light and Magic), but I didn’t have the same personal development that I get now as a business owner running my own business.

A ‘Post’ is A Verb and a Noun
By · CommentsWhen you use WordPress as your website, you get more than just ‘pages’ of your site. You get the blog ‘post’ feature that not only creates an online web page, but it also gets distributed through your RSS feed. (RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication). That means when you make a blog ‘post’ to your site, other people will see it automatically in either their email, feed reader, or social media site (such as Facebook or Twitter).
Now you could keep things simple, and just create a website with pages only. That would be considered a CMS (Content Management System) site. Fancy words for ‘just a simple straightforward site’. Or you could use the ‘post’ feature, as I am doing here with this blog post.
So, what does the word ‘post’ mean?
Well a post is an action: you can ‘post’ and article to your blog or you can ‘post’ a comment
A ‘post’ is also a noun: when you want to create a blog post, you go inside your admin and ‘add a new post’.
So a person could say: “Where is the post?” (using the word as a noun)
or a person could say: “Did you post a comment?” (using the word as a verb)
So go ahead, and post a comment below and let me know if this explanation was clear to you.
