What Free Training Would You Like?

By

Today I had my first in a series of free training webinars for prospective new students of the Website Creation Workshop.  (and it was a pleasure to see my alumni on the call as well)

We talked about getting  a Gravatar.com account and about using WordPress as your own social media platiform.

So, I want to give you more free trainings, but I want to know:

What do you want me to teach you?

What do you need to know before you sign up for my 8 module Website Creation Workshop?

How can I help you get ready to build your website with me?

Enter your requests below in the comments, and I’ll pick which ones are most appropriate to everyone

  1. Sharyn McCoy says:

Hi Christina! Great training on Gravatar this afternoon! I did like you said and had my Gravatar account and picture complete before the end of the webinar. I can hardly wait to take your Website Creation Workshop — I’ve been online for 2 years trying to get a website up and running … I think I’ve finally found the answer — YOU! Thanks again! Sharyn

    • Christina Hills says:

      Sharyn,

that is so cool! That was my goal to have your gravatar complete by the end of the webinar. I’m still not seeing it here yet, but I’m sure it will be up by tomorrow.

Remember, to add ALL the email addresses you use to your gravatar account.

  2. Hi Christina:

I was on the gravatar call today and created one for my client’s wordpress site. I have some WP experience, but want more… I would like to learn to create custom headers, how to decide which templates and plug-in to use.

    Thanks
    Donna

    • Christina Hills says:

      Donna,
      Get a gravatar for yourself.

A call on how to decide what theme template to use is a great idea!

I’ll add that to the list

  3. If you are thinking about getting your website up and running or updating your old one and if you are considering whether to take this course or not, I say , “DO THIS COURSE!!!” Christina is a fantastic teacher and she covers all you can handle and then some. I just finished her fall course, took extra coaching and my site is up and running and I am in control of it, not a webmaster. I can update and add pictures, etc as I need. This is a fantastic couse and it is really fun too. I will be joining you in the spring to make another website for another part of my business. I wish you all the best in your website creations!!!

  4. Hi, Christina!
I really enjoyed your hands-on webinar on Gravatar today. Got inspired and added a few more email addresses and images to my Gravatar account. Some of my Power English Class students listened in, too, and told me they enjoyed your teaching style and it was a good practice understanding spoken English :-)

How about doing a simple training on Twitter? Things like how one can follow you on Twitter? I think I signed up a while back, but I am not sure where I can get your twitter messages.

Also, thanks a lot for the Website Creation Workshop. It’s been a year since I took the 1st one. I’ll be returning to build some more sites. I’ve built two so far for my products and trainings, including a membership site. I often think of your quote: “This is so hards, this is so hard… – I can’t believe how EASY it is!”

Thanks a lot. ~ Natasha Cooper

    • Christina Hills says:

      Natasha,

Yes, students go from “This is hard, this is hard, to … This is SO EASY!”

A call in Twitter is a great idea!

  5. I want to learn all about WordPress.org so I can take control of my site.

  6. Ken says:

Thank you! As ever, clear and easy to follow instructions. I need that. (Looking forward to seeing my new gravatar on this post.)

  7. Today’s training was perfect…fun, quick, readily understood…and I had Gravatars for each of my three e-addresses before the training was half-way through the hour. Amazing, and just what I needed as a high-point at time in my schedule. My next web endeavor will be to create a good Fan Page on Facebook and possibly convert my present landing page to a WordPress.org page. I will need to know whether I can do so without losing its function as a link into another web site where I am a member, but not an owner or webmaster. I don’t know if either can be appropriately incorporated into your training.

Oh, and I would like to learn how to contact Facebook or do what it takes to figure out how to access my page directly with the personal name I set up a few months ago when that opportunity was presented. I’ve not been able to direct anyone to it successfully in recent weeks. Thanks so very much!

  8. Usuff Omar says:

Thanks for the gravatar webinar. At first I didn’t see why a specific website was needed to put photos on WordPress (WP) comments. But I’m realizing its a management system geared to WP… I’m sure I’ll understand more once I check it out and start using it.

I’m very unsure about things like DNS servers, pointing this to that, file folders in hosting accounts, subdomains… It would be nice to have a webinar that goes over the basic building blocks of the system. Not to go into techie details, just the essential concepts of what things are, what they do, how they work in principle. To make the process of setting up a WP blog more understandable. (But I think this might be a big ask.) Thanks.

  9. Tomesia says:

    Hi Christina,

Thanks for the great call today. You always show how things that seem to be cumbersome are actually very easy. I would love to see a webinar on customizing blog templates and headers. I would also like to know which applications in facebook are best to use for directing traffic to a website and/or blog.

Thanks again for all you do.
    Tomesia Ingram

  10. Allison Zang says:

    Christina,

Are you going to share a replay of the training? I would love to listen.

    Thanks
    Allisoon

  11. Judit says:

    Christina,
great training today, was easy to follow. Like the idea of using our wordpress site as a social network.
What I would love to learn is how to create landing pages, opt-in forms, and sales letters on wordpress.
I just set up my new website (a work in progress) on the Flexx professional theme. I listened to your fantastic webinar on the itheme website twice but will go back again to learn the nitty-gritty details about Flexx.
I was considering Builder theme, too but maybe next time. It was just too new to me.
    Thanks a lot.
    Judit

    • Christina Hills says:

      Judit,
I’d stick with Flexx as it’s an easy straightforward theme. Builder is a bit more advanced.
      Glad you liked the webinar!
      :)

  12. Hi Christina,

I have my website on WordPress and am most interested in learning how to effectively post podcasts and videos on my site.

    Thanks,
    Laura Rolands

  13. Powerpaul says:

    Hi Christina,

Love the free training you offer. It’s great value and will build many trusting relationships – something we all need to do online as marketers.
I’ve been using a Gravatar image for a while now and find that I always feel more connected to the other person when I can see them as I read their comment. I find it to be a big boost in the trust & confidence level for the reader.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Powerpaul

  14. Miguel Cura says:

Christina, it’s a pleasure as always to be part of the webinar audience when you teach. I always walk away with something useful, even with the “easy” stuff.

I know you covered including YouTube into WordPress sites. I use it myself, based on your instruction. So perhaps, expanding on that, you might cover what other video players or services someone could use on their WordPress site.

For example, Amazon has their own video hosting service that’s been recommended by some other folks I know.
    http://www.ezs3.com/

  15. Leslie Tyson says:

    Hi Christina,

I would love to learn more about customizing the Flexx theme.

    Thanks much,
    Leslie

  16. Tracy says:

    Hi Christina,

I currently have a simple website that I have complete control over editing, etc. I now would like to create a blogsite that I can use along with my website. I have seen all the fantastic benefits to having a blog and I plan on doing a lot of writing and it seems perfect to create a blogsite. I want to learn how to create a nice wordpress blogsite that I have control over. Is this something I can learn to do within the next two months or so? Also, what would be the major advantages to having a blogsite over a website?
Thanks for all your great work.
    Tracy

  17. Nat says:

Good training today i really enjoyed it. You have a nice calm way of presenting difficult matter, not saying today was tough but were very easy to listen to; not Guru like

I would love to see inserting video into wordpress.

    Thanks

  18. Donna Abreu says:

    Hi Christina -

I missed your training, but have to chime in here.

I have learned so much from Christina in the past. She is an excellent trainer… patient and has a passion for teaching and mastering her topic of expertise.

As far as WordPress training… I would love to learn how to get around the Editor tool inserting or removing line breaks after I have written and saved text in a page or a post.

    Thanks,
    Donna

  19. Hi Christina,

I will be looking forward to the recording of the call – sounds like it was a great one! In terms of what I would like to learn: I have a wordpress.org website that somebody else set up for me. I do not know how to change things and how to add stuff (like a pink spoon marketing box, change my blog on the site, change that it says “Archive for the latest news category” in bold letters right at the top of my blog, change the banner picture, have a smaller banner, add RSS feed button, etc.) Most likely all very beginner things, but I only started to work recently on my website and it takes a while if I have to find out everything by myself.

    Looking forward to your course,

    Wendy LugoSantiago

  20. Hello Christina,

Did not get a chance to hear the webinar- is it available anywhere? I am in the UK and setting up a website that will be international. I would love help with the putting of products and banners on the site- including creation of banners. Some of the products will be affiliate so bringing their info onto the site and displaying is also something I would be interested in. Moving forward, how to make a blog interesting and good to look at and how to write newsletters.
Many thanks and I would love to hear the replay.
    Love and blessings,

    Caroline xxx

  21. Nancy says:

I enjoyed your training today. You make the process easy to understand. I would like to see some training on how to set up a shopping cart.

  22. carol says:

    Christina-
I missed the webinar due to work but I noticed the email said there would be a replay. When will that be? I really look forward to seeing it.
    thanks,
    Carol

  23. I would like wordpress to be the web site/blog for me to build a:
    1) information web site (info site)to promote the info that I am writting about in the field and then I am going to sell
    2) blog web site for me (to have a dialog with the public) and then sell to them the affilate articles from eBay or another site.

I am a retired podiatrist and selling walking related articles from the walking info site.

I would like to set it up as a full time project.
    Thank you, Frank

  24. Hi Christina,

Looking forward to taking the Spring course (again.) I always get so much from you. I love the way you have your visual training set up. Easy to take notes right on the tutorial pages.

    Thanks much,

    Kathryn

  25. Just checking my gravitar to see if I can see it here.

  26. Christina Hills says:

I’m sending out the email broadcast for the replay now.
    Watch your email for that.

I’m also polling my whole list on what free training you’d like. I’m planning another training call for next Thursday.

  27. Hi Christina: It would be great if you could provide tips for setting up a basic blog using WordPress… I am volunteering for an organization and will be helping to set up both a blog and Facebook page to help support a fundraising campaign.
    Thanks!

  28. Pat Bluth says:

I’m just a newbee so don’t even know what training I would need. I am an author so would want a sales page, autoresponder program, and an opt-in box. I will have more questions as we go along, I am sure.

  29. Great call yesterday! It is such a pleasure to hear your nice, slow-down voice! Just finished Jeff & Maritza’s Social Marketing Blueprint…just can’t go that fast! Whew!. So I am interested in 1. How to find a theme that matches one’s niche in some way. Mine is up but not complete. 2. How to upload the widgets. 3. Where to find content related to my niche, which is seniorsgoinggreen.com.

  30. Sherry Brimacombe says:

Hi Christina: Your fall course was great and I’m looking forward to spring. I was a complete newb so did not know much about anything re the web. I would like to have more explicit information (history and where it’s going) about WordPress websites vs. regular sites. And maybe some mention of Drupal and any other open source applications folks can use and why WordPress is your fave choice. Maybe some content on web terms like …what’s html, flash, html 5, etc. and how do they relate to WordPress…that sort of thing.

    Thanks!

  31. Cathy says:

I would like to see more training on putting a logo on the top banner and how to add and make changes to the slightly complicated plug-ins (like the booking calendar).

I look forward to going through the class again this March!

    Cathy

  32. hi Christina, i would like to know how to get the smallest possible byte size when preparing graphics. usually i have graphics that are still 20 to 40 KB but i want it a still smaller size of below 10 or even 5 KB.

  33. Kaye Tench says:

Hi Christine – I purchased the Xmas special as down the line I would like to add products to my site – I am using PayPal at the moment for clients fees to me – however I really need a total Beginners Basics course. I read a lot however knowledge is sketchy in actually applying to site – I read and it seems so much is taken for granted that the reader knows how to actually do – not usually the case! I would like to start from scratch so as to do the management of my site myself – a tall order from where I stand right now perhaps! But the testimonials give me hope!

  34. Christina Hills says:

    These are all GREAT suggestions!

Some of the suggestions are appropriate for free trainings, and some of them are covered in my course (so I don’t want to duplicate myself)

The next free training will be next Thursday February 11th at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific.

I will send an email announcement with more details next week!

  35. Tina says:

    Hi Christina,
Great webinar, I went and did as instructed so I’m checking to see if it works. Funny that you should do this webinar because I had been serching around for how this is done and could not figure it out. Thanks so much for making it so easy to do.

I would like to learn how to add a html page that I created outside of wordpress and put it on my blog site. I want to create a home page, is this covered in your website creation class?
    Thanks so much,
    Tina

  36. Jackie says:

    Hi Christina,

I’m most concerned about how to move my current website to a WordPress platform while maintaining my backlinks and page ranks but changing the page names. I’d also like to change hosting services.

Do you cover these subjects in your workshop?

  37. You are the answer I have been asking for! Thank you Christina for your content rich webinars. I am ready to take my biz to the next level and have been bogged down with a very static web site. Ready, willing and able to get started! I have many clients who will benefit as well. You rock Christina! Looking forward to the class.

  38. Lynn Dye says:

Just stepped through the short gravatar video along with you, and made my gravatar. Thanks for your always thorough explanations.

Does the gravatar work only with WordPress blogs?

I’ve already used WordPress to create my website, using the Flexx theme (same as you are using now). I think it’s a great way for people to get themselves on-line and wish you much success in your next class.

  39. Specifically Christine, I need to get my new web site up and running (wordpress) as my business is evolving rather rapidly and I am really looking forward to the shift from my static site to creating a more fluid and interactive site. Can I create a membership site with wordpress as well? Downloading video and audio is also a must as well. From all I see it appears you have the answers and solutions.

  40. Anne says:

I would love to see you guide us through setting up a wordpress blog site on Bluehost. You are a really good teacher:)

  41. Asif Vadaria says:

    Hi Christine,

Great webinar on Gravator. I have several domain names so besides creating a website, I would also like to learn how to create landing pages. And how to put audio and video on the website.

  42. Ditto Katie’s question about the membership site/plugin for wordpress– I think I heard/saw that there is one?

  43. Bill & Kathy Coons says:

    3 items/questions

1– What is RSS and what’s it for? Maybe a free class on this.

2– What will be the price for your upcoming class?

3– If I were to pay it now could I get access to the replay’s of last falls class.

  44. I’ve been an instructor for over 25 years and I love this approach — ASK people what they want to learn FIRST!

I have a WordPress blog hosted through Blue Host that I really love. However, I can’t seem to figure out how to change the “style and size of the font”. Is it even possible to make these changes?

    Thanks, Christina!

  45. I would love to learn how to create a smashing Landing page!
Agree about the RSS training. I am afraid to start using stuff like that in fear that I will post something to my facebook that I don’t want my clients see.

  46. Christina Hills says:

    These are all great suggestions!!

Make sure you are on the list so you get the reminder for the free teleseminar tomorrow Thursday February 11th
    http://www.websitecreationworkshop.com/blog/free-call/

You will get the phone number and info on the following page.

I’m going to explain RSS and how that effects your design decisions. Plus your WordPress design.

There will be a handout (I’m still working on it now)

    :) Christina

  47. Carol Giambri says:

    First training was excellent. Thanks.
    carol

  48. Christina Hills says:

Hey everyone who is getting this note via email (or reading it on the web)

I have not been able to reply individually to each person’s comments. I’ve been taking the info and planning out my next free trainings (plus I’ve been moving offices)

Yesterday I got a great testimonial from one of my students
So I thought I’d post it here

    :D Christina

  49. Christina,
Your class was even a teacher jam packed full of creative ideas so not only is your class a lesson on how to build websites, its a great learning tool on teaching well. Learning how to do tecky stuff with to a slower left brain mentality. You are great for both types as this right-brained person remarks! You make class more of a right brain activity! It’s just fun and very informative. What a joy and how refreshing to have such copetent employees right by your side helping you; helping us! Taking your class was a treat and I as alumni will be back. I took the classes but did not build a site; I was in transition moving 3,000 miles across country. In just reading the comments here it all comes back very clear just how easy you were to learn from and the excitment is building! I am thrilled that I am planted now and have a fast internet again. I feel I’ll be putting the ideas ot finally of what I could create since class began last time in fall. I now know putting out sites will be a wonderul experience that I am certain I will be able to accomplish.

Thank you so much – I can not wait to start,
    Trudy Schwartz-Burrill

I have two ideas of what I would like to pre-learn.

    Class Idea:
Teaching about downloading firefox and other needed downloads plus an emphasis on having all windows open on bar so you can jump around to keep up during class? I believe I can use that. Intenet Explorer wasn’t as easy as it seemed firefox will be; I was unable to use firefox before and am excited to come to class now with it.
    Class Idea:
Pre download wordpress plus reminders to make transitions

  50. Jackie says:

    Hi Christina,

Will you be teaching how to change an existing site to a WordPress theme but keep a similar look and feel in order to preserve the branding?

    thanks

  51. Dr. Tracy says:

    Hi Christina,
Thanks for all of your tips and advice. I would love to learn an easy way to back up my website. There are folders for thems, folders for graphics, etc.–if I was to save every file in them all, I wouldn’t know how put them back in the same place if I had to! There has to be an easy way.

  52. Usuff says:

    Christina,
Not for the free training but the paid training. Hope you can show us how to prevent our WP site from being hacked or infiltrated. I heard it happens. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Usuff

    • Christina Hills says:

      Usuff,

keeping up with the software updates helps prevent hacking. But adding more tips on that is a good idea.

  53. Aiyana says:

For a newbie super non-techie like me—I’d like the most basic of basics to be covered. I’ve installed wordpress (took me 3 days), decided on Thesis for my theme, and have uploaded it to my server bluehost (at least it appears to be) and yet it doesn’t show up on my wordpress dashboard—have been trying for 2 days straight now!!!! When you don’t know, you don’t know! Help!!!!!! BTW, do you build wordpress sites for folks and then do a little tutorial/mini-training with them so they can then manage going forward? Please say you do! (exasperated smile). What’s your fee and where do I sign up?! I have a deadline of March 26th to get my site up and I’ve heard that it is totally do-able to have it done in the next 12 days (until the 26th). Yet, I’m beginning to wonder…If it’s taken me 3 days to install wordpress and 2 days of no success uploading thesis….what on earth will my experience be actually building the site???!!! Your service is soooo needed! HELP!

    • Christina Hills says:

      Aiyana,

If you checked the box to get follow up comments, then you are seeing this message in your email.

And it’s being posted here to the blog.

In my course I spend a week just going over internet marketing fundamentals.

The details for the course come out tomorrow, but you can see the schedule here now
      http://www.WebsiteCreationWorkshop.com/schedule

I do not build websites for other folks. I teach folks how to build websites themselves and not to be dependent upon others.

I teach how to install a wordpress site in 5 min, so I’m not sure what advice you got to do it in 3 days.

I feel for you, and hope that you decide to join me in my coaching program.

There will be an early bird mastermind call this Friday, so if you get registered early, you can get into that.

The registration page will be here
      http://www.websitecreationworkshop.com/register

  54. Fran Aslam says:

    Hey chritina :

I am so glad that I found you. But Now I have to wait for the right time. So when will you start the next class of word press training, as i have to make sure I have availability for me to learn all that.

Just let me know two things when will the next
class start and what is the fee.
I will be waiting for your email.
    You have a wonderful weekend

    • Christina Hills says:

      Fran,
Most likely the next Website Creation Workshop will happen in the Fall of 2010. The fee for the next Fall Semester’s course has not yet been determined.

Sign up on the right sidebar to be on my email list, and you will get notified when that happens.

Plus, I am going to read over all of these comments, and come up with some more free trainings after the current course ends.
